Welcome to the AAA WA Southern Region Website.
The
Western Australia Southern Region extends from Harvey, just north of Bunbury,
to the south coast and east to Esperance and the South Australian border.
This area encompasses internationally recognised wineries, tall Karri forests
and sparkling pristine beaches. The region has a Mediterranean climate with
little or no rainfall over hot summers and cool winters with heavy rainfall
periods. Agriculture across the region is varied with horticulture, cattle
and dairy farming, broad acre sheep farming and life style farmlets with many
farms now adding Alpacas to their enterprises.
We have a relatively small but very dedicated band of members who travel vast distances to attend meetings and workshops. A distance of six hundred kilometres separates our westernmost and easternmost members. We meet approximately every two to three months and guest speakers, farm visits or some learning activity is arranged for each meeting to make the long distances travelled fully worthwhile
The
region hosts a major educational workshop with interstate guest speakers each
year. Topics cover all aspects of Alpaca care and handling, fleece shearing
and classing, marketing and other industry related topics.
The region offers friendly, personalised service from members who generally only have small herds themselves and understand all the issues from a new owners perspective. There is a professional regional newsletter detailing local news, stories and information about the Alpaca lifestyle provided for all current and potential members.
The Albany Show, an accredited AAA event, is hosted by the region in November and concludes the Western Australia show season.
